However, they did manage to get 6 or 7 takes which could be (they hoped) edited together to match the final video (I hope I hear screams of terror in the background there…).

However, with the lack of time and access to the performer, there simply hadn’t been time to rehearse the synced version and instead they had to pile through multiple takes all prior to the video actually being edited.ĭid it work? No comment. Chills went down our spines when we heard this, but it was really their only solution. Since it was minus whatever inside the building (heck, it was snowing in there), whilst the vocal performance was excellent, the musician had been unable to warm up sufficiently to play their Guitar, and thus had essentially mimed it with the hope of re-recording the audio later. Some colleagues had shot a quite amazing video last winter – striking is hardly the word, with desolate buildings, an intriguing and compelling musician and pelting snow – but they had run into a bit of a problem. In fairness, this has not been an issue for me so far – but then _this_ happened… Despite all the advances that Cubase undoubtedly has undergone over the last few years, it appears that while you can audio quantize multiple phase-aligned tracks, you can’t free warp them.

I’m still getting into Cubase 6 (yeah, I know there’s a 7, give us a moment!), but there’s one killer feature that _still_ appears to be missing, and it’s always tempting to go back to PT (I won’t at the moment – love the ‘base, love the plugins, love the interface).
